The Material Coordinator coordinates and expedites flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules or department supervisors' priorities. In this job, the Material Coordinator reviews production schedules and confers with department supervisors, and or shop scheduler to determine schedules and conflicting priorities. Will be responsible for transporting or moving medium and small packages to various locations on and off the Laboratory; handle machinery, flight hardware, fixtures, and project & program support equipment, using hand of forklift. Move freight, raw stock, and in-process hardware materials to and from storage and production areas. Move raw materials, components, and finished goods between loading docks, storage areas, and work areas within the Mechanical Fabrication section. Manually pack, package, or wrap a variety of materials. Inspect parts packaging for defects or damage, label cartons, stamp information on products, keep records of items packed, and moved between multiple on-site locations. Update delivery sequences to departments according to job order priorities to meet production schedules. Monitor and track parts according to the daily plan. Track moves by processing the move transactions in the Oracle System.
• Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Associates degree with a minimum of 1 years of related experience; related required training.
• Solid understanding of both general and detailed aspects of job and work techniques in machinery and flight hardware handling as well as practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
• Solid understanding of Oracle Discrete Manufacturing suite of programs, to monitor Work in Progress (WIP), and applies knowledge and skills in this area.
Must be able to pass internal flight hardware handling certification class and Electro-Static (ESD) parts handling certification, which will be provided within the first week of employment. In addition, Clean Room access will require minimal (2 hours) of proper protocol training for certification. Good computer skills, attention to detail and communication skills. Strong organizational and customer service skills. Must be able to work overtime and weekends with little or no advanced notice. Must be able to drive, load and unload utility truck or van and safely lift up to 35 pounds. Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License with a good driving record. Ability to take initiative, self-motivated, work independently, and function as a cooperative team member.
Previous experience in expediting/logistics along with at least 1 year of previous shipping experience. Experienced in following verbal and written instructions, utilization of bar-coded travelers and inventory pick-lists. Experience or ability to pay close attention to move locations and maintain detailed logs of material move transactions. Proficiency with computer data entry; knowledgeable in automated purchase order and receipt tracking applications; ability to adapt readily to a changing institutional environment; ability to work well under pressure and time constraints.
