The Engineering Technician II performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may be reviewed in progress. This technician performs at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as: a. Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment; b. Conducting a variety of tests using established methods, preparing test specimens, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors; c. Extracting engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, processing the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry, and presenting the data in prescribed form.
Must have one to two years mechanical experience, will work directly with flight techs, will handle Flight Hardware following associated procedures.Must be able to understand and read blueprints; skilled in operations of all shop tools; ability to follow directions of Lead Technicians and Spacecraft Engineers; possess good communication skills; strong computer knowledge a must. Must have working knowledge of electronic principles. Have a proven track record for excellent attendance and promptness. Technicians must be able to work flexible extended hours, 2nd and 3rd shifts, and overtime and weekends to meet schedules. Support of operations at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) may also be requested.
Minimum 8 years experience as a prototype fabricator/assembler. Multi-talented person with some or all of the following skills: prototype electromechanical devices assembly, working knowledge of electronics for setting up testing of devices, working 100-10,000 clean room,working experience with CNC tools, proven ability to follow government specs, and working experience with hydraulic systems (i.e. structural test frames, actuators, operations and maintenance of multi-channel load maintainers). Working knowledge of mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) and proof testing procedures. Certified A & P or Avionics license, Be able to travel on assignments for periods up to 6 months. Willing to be a team member following precise directions given by supervision
