Responsible for performing a variety of tasks under limited supervision including, fabrication of thermal couples, signal cables, and setup of instrumentation recording equipment. Ensure that the process, product, and environment comply with Laboratory protocols, government regulations, and professional standards. Setup, install, and operate LabVIEW data acquisition systems for thermal or dynamic testing. Train to work safely on and around valuable NASA space flight hardware using Electrostatic discharge, cleanroom, and critical item handling protocols. Troubleshoot electrical wiring on environmental test equipment, prepare environmental chambers for time and temperature testing or processing of flight hardware. Train as operator for 25ft space simulator and small environmental chambers. Ensure that all processes, product, and environment comply with Laboratory rules and protocols, government regulations, and professional standards. Required to be available to work day and night shifts, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
Typically requires a High School diploma with 6 years of general work experience; related required training. Possess standard skills in troubleshooting and component testing of electrical systems, knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures. Ability to understand and work from standard engineering drawings and schematics, work from/follow detailed procedures, and established processes, and understand and log data in multiple types of media (MS Excel). Must have in depth understanding, and experience in the following areas: use basic hand tools including sockets, wrenches, taps, dies, soldering iron, and knowledge of different types of fasteners use on machinery and equipment, operation of a drill press, grinder, and band saw. In depth knowledge and experience with desktop computers and MS Office programs to perform operations such as: web searches in support of procurement of parts and services, email, recordkeeping, and web based timekeeping systems. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a cleanroom environment with the appropriate gloves, hat, booties, smock etc. in support of flight hardware testing.
Associates degree or trade school certificate Knowledge of fabrication of thermal couples, the operation of multi-meters, signal generators, and digital data management equipment and the repair and calibration of instrumentation equipment, spot welding equipment for instrumentation assembly and repair. Knowledge of Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) awareness, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) management, connector mating/de-mating, flight hardware handling, personnel protective equipment, and training for other types of operations relating to testing. Experience in handling/plumbing of cryogenic liquids and delivery systems, component replacement, the calibration, and repair of helium mass spectrometer leak detectors, experience with the operation or setup of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) type systems.
