Job Description:
JPL’s Mechanical and Receiving Inspection Group is seeking a Mechanical Inspector who will be responsible for performing the CMM dimensional inspection of machined parts from both internal manufacturing and procured from JPL suppliers for spacecraft assembly. This position will require interfacing with customers to understand and sometimes suggest inspection requirements, managing workload and priorities in inspection queues and documenting/communicating inspection results. This position will conduct moderately complex inspections of space flight hardware and will require programming of CMM using PC DMIS software as well as micrometers, borescopes, height gages, and reporting of non-conformances; identification of inspection techniques improvements and incorporation of best practices in processes; and the assessment of suppliers’ processes and products.

Required Skills:
•Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 6 years of related experience or Associates degree with a minimum of 1 year of related experience. Related required training in mechanical hardware inspection practices and advanced knowledge in two or more of the following areas:  
•Programming a CMM using PC DMIS software * Ability to offline program * Understand projected tolerances * Experience with small tolerances (ie 0.0002") 
•Use of drawings and specifications 
•Extensive GD&T knowledge

Candidate must have demonstrated ability to interact with peers and/or functional partners within the organization, as well as customers external to JPL and may assist less experienced personnel with work assignments. Application of required policies, procedures and practices to resolve a variety of complex procedure will be required, with general supervision for routine work and detailed instructions for new assignments.
