Job Description:
Will be a member of the Antenna Mechanical and Structural Engineering Group (333H) and will report to the Antenna Mechanical and Structural group supervisor. Will be responsible for supporting various mechanical hardware development and deployment tasks in the area of DSN antenna mechanical. Establish performance, qualification and test requirements for antenna mechanical and structural elements. Interface with other engineers, analysts, designers, fabricators and field personnel. Will work in a collaborative team environment under the direction of the group 333H supervisor.

Will be responsible for the following:
•Developing new or revised designs for ground based antennas or special projects.
•Performing minor engineering analyses of existing and new mechanical designs
•Serve as a resource for internal and external organizations and perform other mechanical design duties as assigned.
•In compliance with programmatic constraints, investigates, plans, designs and develops mechanical products such as power transmission, mechanical and hydraulic mechanisms, instruments, packaged electronics and controls. Maintains cognizance of and is responsible for all technical and programmatic aspects of the product being developed, reporting the status and performance to the appropriate organizations. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems, instruments, controls, and/or machines.
•Searches and consolidates engineering data for mechanical components or products. Responds and reports engineering findings to other
•Partners with other engineers to generate engineering requirements and specification documentation for mechanical systems.
•Partners with other engineers in the analysis, and oversees assembly and test of mechanical assemblies.
•Contributes to technology development.
•Attends project reviews as necessary to answer questions regarding own analysis
•Participates on concept development teams by introducing and infusing new approaches and tools acquired from recent academic experience.
•Partners with scientists and engineers on the definition of requirements and evaluates alternative configurations consistent with schedule, cost and
material limitations.
•Assesses or is responsible for the maintenance, status, analysis, and reporting of assigned project schedules and associated metrics.
•Performs moderately complex job functions and activities within assigned area.
•Works independently on important assignments and projects with only limited supervision, typically receiving only general instructions.
•Interfaces with machine shops and or vendors in manufacture of design(s).

Required Skills:
•Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
•Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
•Associate degree in technical discipline(s) with typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in mechanical, electro-mechanical design or related design field.
•Command of ASME Y14 Drawing Practices and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
•Established working knowledge of SolidWorks as a 3D parametric modeler. Additionally, a knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
•A self-starter and task-oriented team player with strong customer service skills and excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, presentation and planning skills.
•Candidate must be computer literate and experienced in the use of CAD and MS office programs.

Desired Skills:
•Bachelors in technical discipline(s) with typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in mechanical, electromechanical design orrelated design field.
•Knowledge of Deep Space Network (DSN) practices and standards.
•Has demonstrated experience working effectively interfacing with multiple levels of management, operations personnel and technical activities.
