Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineer to join the Autonomy and Fault Protection group (313I). You will report programmatically to the project fault protection lead, and administratively to the technical group supervisor. Be responsible for the delivery of the autonomy and fault management requirements, principles/practices and products for space system architectures, designs, implementations, and verification and validation.
Your initial assignment will be to serve as a fault protection system engineer working on the group’s deliverables to the Europa Clipper Project.
Specific near-term tasks will be geared towards the critical design of the Europa Clipper fault management, fault protection CDR, and algorithm specification for implementation. Analyses will include Functional FMECAs, FTA, Mitigation Matrices, FP V&V planning and ultimately the specification for flight software based monitors and responses.
In the long run, you may work on tasks such as execution of the FP V&V program and SI&T. Other opportunities include preliminary FP design, scenarios and architecture / principle development on another program.

The qualified candidate is an experienced system engineer or fault protection practitioner capable of applying their accumulated experience and making an immediate impact. Minimum technical qualifications include:
•Significant knowledge of the function and operation of spacecraft systems, subsystems, and instruments
•Recent flight project experience in critical design or SI&T
•Experience coordinating design efforts with partner organizations or vendors
•Must have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
•Proven ability to lead the activities of and to synthesize the unique discipline knowledge of a broad range of technical subject matter experts

Desired Skills:
The most competitive candidates will satisfy some of the following:
•Wide-ranging experience and advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: systems engineering, aerospace engineering, and reliability trades/analyses
•Familiarity with SMAP avionics, FP and FSW
•Experience with FP critical design and FP V&V execution in one or more recent flight projects
•Experience with development and delivery of system documentation, such as requirements documents, functional design descriptions, test plans, and release description documents
•Ability to work independently on major project assignments, with accountability for technical performance, budget and schedule
•Proven ability to interact effectively across multiple disciplines with government and non-government agencies
•Willingness to obtain a security clearance if applying from outside Section 313
