Will be a member of the Electric Propulsion (EP) Group and will report to the Group Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
• Provide electromechanical support for the EP laboratories in the areas of: fabrication of custom laboratory hardware, instruments, high-vacuum systems and electrical systems operating in high-temperature, cryo-temperature, vacuum, high-voltage, and plasma environments.
• Perform fabrication and precision assembly of ground support equipment including Dollies, Slings, Spreader bars and straps.
• Perform highly critical Lifts and Integration operations.
• Set up tests, verify configuration, wiring, cable fabrication, machine maintenance, and assist with the design, prototype, and test of mechanical, electrical, and hardware/software systems.
• Work from prints and sketches and use precision measuring devices, as well as all shop and hand tools.
• Perform maintenance and setup operations on test equipment and facilities and/or mechanical support equipment.
• Interface with cognizant engineers, suggest test configurations, and perform work in accordance with verbal direction and written procedures.
• Ensure that applicable policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to laboratories are followed for: pressure systems, clean rooms, vacuum, high voltage, confined space, materials, chemicals, cryogenics, lifting devices, and general safety.

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Typically requires a High School diploma with 6 years of related experience; related and required training; Associates with 1 years of related experience.
• Fabrication of custom laboratory test hardware and instrument parts.
• Ability to read and produce parts from both detailed and hand-drawn schematic drawings.
• Ability to fabricate very fine parts for plasma probes and micropropulsion systems.
• Experienced with machining and general machine shop knowledge.
• Familiarity with machining refractory metals (tungsten, tantalum, etc.), ceramics (alumina, macor, boron nitride), graphite, and high-performance polymers.
• Knowledge of material properties and uses in high-temperature, cryo-temperature, vacuum, and plasma environments.
• Design, fabrication, repair, and packaging of electrical systems for laboratory use, both power and instrumentation.
• Knowledge and experience working with DC high voltage systems (up to 3 kV).
• Understand and work with electrical schematics, including detailed schematics supplied by manufacturers and those hand-drawn by engineers.
• Experienced with fabricating and working with electrical cabling, including connectors, vacuum feedthroughs, and soldering operations.
• Knowledge of and ability to maintain and rebuild vacuum pumps and vacuum system parts.
• Operate and maintain vacuum facilities (down to 1E-7 Torr), including feedthroughs, gas delivery systems, cryopumps, diffusion pumps, turbopumps, blowers, and rotary piston pumps.
• Fabricate, operate, and maintain cryogenic fluid delivery systems.
• Operate and maintain pneumatic systems including vacuum gate valves.
• Familiarity with helium leak testing.
• Familiarity with high pressure and low pressure gas delivery systems, including tubing, fittings, valves, bottles, and regulators.
• Install and maintain leak-free vacuum interfaces including flanges, doors, windows, and feed-throughs.
• Experience with fluid and electrical systems in vacuum environments.
• Ability to identify and produce solutions for laboratory experimental challenges: understand the issues, develop single or multiple ideas, produce hardware sketches, and fabricate the hardware.
• Use creativity in solving unique and challenging experimental problems.
• Work cooperatively with engineers on assigned tasks. Work with limited supervision requiring no instructions on routine work, and general instructions on new assignments.
• Advanced understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to laboratories: pressure systems, clean rooms, vacuum, high voltage, confined space, materials, chemicals, cryogenics, lifting devices, and general safety.

Desired Skills :
• High School with 8 years of related experience; Associates degree with 4 years of related experience; Bachelors with 1 year of related experience.
• Fabrication and assembly of electric thrusters and parts for laboratory use.
• Experience with solid-modeling computer-aided design (CAD) applications, the design of complex mechanical assemblies, and the generation of drawings conforming to GD&T standards for fabrication.
