Job Responsibilities
The Columbus Team is looking for a senior level Systems Engineer to support the SETS Contract with NOAA. The
selectee for this position will be responsible for helping to plot and execute the course for a “transition to the Cloud”
existing systems and processes. In this role, the selectee must have Cloud transition expertise and experience: not just
training. Experience working with Amazon Web Service (AWS) technology and secure the Cloud expertise are preferred
but not required.
This System Engineer will be supporting extremely complex programs and will be working with other contractors as
well as US Government representatives and decision makers. The majority of work assignments are self-directed;
therefore, the selectee must have a successful track record for working independently, managing time, managing
multiple (sometimes conflicting) priorities, and personally accountable for completion of duties and assignments.


Requirements
•Must be US Citizen and Registered for Selective Service
•Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
•Education Requirement: B.S. degree in Engineering, Math, or Computer/Information Science field
•Coordinate with Cloud Systems Engineer and Common Services Architect to identify optimal use of Cloud technology
in supporting NESDIS business and mission functions and services
•Ensure that Cloud technology concepts and standards are reflected in NESDIS Ground Enterprise architecture artifacts
(BA, TA. etc.)
•Support the development and publishing of Cloud based design patterns
•Maintain awareness of public Cloud capabilities, tools, services and best practices in Fed Gov’t implementation.
•Actively represent and pursue the best interests of an assigned project, leveraging experience and expertise to
ensure mission goals and objectives (stated and implied) are foremost in analysis and subsequent recommendations
for actions/plans.
•Have satellite ground systems Systems Engineering experience.
•Work with government and contractor personnel to propose, influence, and design plans for cloud utilization, as
appropriate.
•Proactive Risk Management identification, analysis, assessment, control, as well as development of mitigation
strategies (avoidance, minimization, or elimination of identified or unacceptable risks.
•Active participant in meetings, working groups, teams
•Compilation of reports, presentations, white papers, recommendations, and position statements
•Excellent written and oral presentation skills
•While not required to supervise the activities of others, the selectee is required to have leadership skills to champion
mission/project goals and objectives.


Desired
Past experience with NOAA (especially NESDIS) or NASA systems, missions, projects, and protocols is preferred;
however, applicable experience with other government agencies will be considered.
