The Columbus Team is looking for a senior level Systems Engineer to support the SETS Contract with NOAA. The selectee for this position will work with the NOAA Office of Satellite Ground Systems (OSGS) Architecture Team. In this role, the selectee must have past experience working with enterprise level satellite ground systems. Significant role in designing architectures that include software, hardware, and communications solutions to support the total requirements, as well as provide for present and future cross functional requirements and interfaces. Ensures architectures are in compliance with open systems standards as they apply to the client’s environment. Evaluates compatibility of information system development efforts with agency architectures and recommends adjustments, as appropriate. Evaluates problems of workflow, organization, and planning and develops appropriate corrective action.
This System Engineer will be supporting extremely complex programs and will be working with other contractors as well as US Government representatives and decision makers. The majority of work assignments are self-directed; therefore, the selectee must have a successful track record for working independently, managing time, managing multiple (sometimes conflicting) priorities, and personally accountable for completion of duties and assignments.
Systems Engineer with Enterprise Architecture Experience. Duties include:
•Analyze existing customer documentation, interview customer subject matter experts in a wide range of disciplines (scientists, engineers, product and data managers, etc.) and participate in enterprise architecture development meeting/workshops.
•Develop Model updates using Government provided tools [Magic Draw]. Expertise in DoD Architecture Framework, Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework, and The Open Group Architecture Framework is required.
•Assist in developing (To-Be) architecture concepts and artifacts, and a roadmap to evolve to the target architecture incrementally based on the NESDIS mission timeline.
•Work with active development programs to assist them in creating lifecycle solution architecture artifacts
•Develop strategies for conducting IT refresh or technical upgrades for the ground enterprise. Work with the
operations and sustainment managers in executing this task.
•Leverage technologies and concepts utilized by the next generation mission ground systems (GOES-R and JPSS) to achieve a target architecture.
•BS degree in a related technical area and registered for Selective Service

•The role is primarily generating systems views updates and drawings using the Magic Draw tool. Therefore the successful candidate will have experience using the Magic Draw tool. The selectee will need to exercise senior level Systems Engineering experience to support tasking, as well as develop and maintain architecture diagrams using Magic Draw.
•Actively represent and pursue the best interests of an assigned project, leveraging experience and expertise to ensure mission goals and objectives (stated and implied) are foremost in analysis and subsequent recommendations for actions/plans.
•Work with government and contractor personnel to propose, influence, and design system architectures, as appropriate.
•Proactive Risk Management identification, analysis, assessment, control, as well as development of mitigation strategies (avoidance, minimization, or elimination of identified or unacceptable risks.
•Active participant in meetings, working groups, teams
•Compilation of reports, presentations, white papers, recommendations, and position statements
•Excellent written and oral presentation skills
•Past experience with NOAA (especially NESDIS) or NASA systems, missions, projects, and protocols is preferred; however, applicable experience with other government agencies will be considered.
•While not required to supervise the activities of others, the selectee is required to have leadership skills to champion mission/project goals and objectives.
•May provide guidance and direction to less experienced systems architects. (May include technical knowledge of workflow processes, document management systems, document imaging software, network requirements, and imaging hardware.)
