Job Description:
Will be a member of the Mechanical Fabrication Engineering Section 357 and will report to the Group Supervisor of the Flight Technicians Group  357C. Will be responsible for assembly and testing of mechanical devices. Work with engineers and teams, complete ad-hoc assignments given by supervision, work overtime as required. Work on a variety of tasks concurrently. Qualified Flight Technician will teamwork with JPL employees in the assembly and disassembly of mock-ups, prototype and flight spacecraft.
This position will have heavy emphasis on flat pattern layout, fabrication, (sewing) and installation of thermal blankets. The candidate will also perform tests, verify configuration, solder wires and cable fabrication. The technician must be able to work from prints and sketches and use precision measuring devices, as well as all shop and hand tools. She/he will perform setup operations on environmental test equipment and mechanical support equipment, start and operate test equipment from detailed procedures and make adjustments as required. The candidate will be responsible for safely handling flight hardware in a controlled environment.
• Uses knowledge of clean room procedures and protocols and electrostatic discharge properties.
• Uses computer skills for more precise viewing of systems and components.
• Uses a total understanding of methods and requirements of torque in completing assignments.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, sketches and product specifications.
• With direction, builds test fixtures.
• Operates moderately complex equipment.
• Builds cables and prototypes from simple drawings.
• Performs setup operations on chambers to prepare for hardware bake outs and flight system tests. May perform startup tests and monitors and makes adjustments per test procedure.
• Performs moderately complex job functions and activities within moderate scope.
• Routine work is typically reviewed thoroughly upon completion; new work assignments are reviewed throughout the entire process for adequacy and accuracy.
• Takes responsibility and ownership of own work.
• Actions, decisions and recommendations may have a minimal to moderate impact on team operations and minimal impact outside own organization.
• Assists less experienced personnel with some work assignments.
• May use innovative and creative approaches to analyze special situations.
• Applies basic judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action when analyzing situations or data.

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 6 years of related experience;
• Minimum of 6 years as a pattern maker and sewing machine operator.
• Solid understanding of general job aspects including in Mechanical/Electromechanical Assembly; Broad understanding of: prototype electromechanical devices assembly, working 100-10,000 clean room, ability to work with different solvents on a daily basis.
• Thorough understanding of Clean Room Environments and applies knowledge and skills in this area.
• Driving (a government issued vehicle) is required for this position.  Must have a valid California driver’s license, a clean driving record and successfully pass a DMV check.

Desired Skills :
6 years experience as a prototype pattern maker and blanket fabricator.
