The Columbus team is looking for a engineer with at least 7 years past experience in roles that engage skills in the systems engineering, network engineering, and systems administration field. This position will be on-site at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The selectee for this position will be a self-motivated, able to demonstrate experience and skills with strong inter and intra-team communication skills, as well as the ability to work with cross-functional teams, i.e., users, developers, product managers, as well as multiple contractors and government representatives.
While this position is posted as a Network Engineer, the successful candidate will have depth of experience in systems engineering, network engineering, and systems administration.
Key Elements: Network operations; including installation, testing, servicing and analysis of network power, software, hardware, communications, cables and lines, modems and terminals. Monitors, controls, and optimizes the performance and status of network resources. Utilizes software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify and resolve operational problems and factors affecting network performance. Responds and resolves operational issues within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Supports large scale systems projects through vendor product evaluation and cost vs. performance studies. Performs on-site engineering when required.
Key Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of LAN/MAN/WAN systems, network applications and their operation, maintenance, and sustaining engineering. A degree in the discipline area of Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Software Engineering, Engineering, or Management of Information Technology.

•MS with 7+ years, or BS/BA with 9+ years experience
•Experience building & maintaining logging & monitoring tools with Elasticsearch & Splunk and Nagios/Zenoss/Hobbit
•Systems development support for operational team using Virtualization (VMware ESX/vSphere & containers/docker/kubernetes), and Puppet/ansible, and Linux/Centos/Redhat experience
•Network automation across AWS and on-premises using scripting in python, CI/CD with Gitlab CI/Bamboo, Jira/Jama/Bitbucket, and Monitor environments for security vulnerabilities and remediate risks
•Building network & security infrastructure in AWS for NGAP with Infrastructure as code (terraform/cloudformation using yaml/json), Cloud infrastructure familiarity (AWS VPC/subnets/security groups/routing/NACL), and Blue/Green deployments
•Prior experience working with NASA or other government agencies for satellite services and ground systems is desired.
