Job Description:
The Personal Computer Support Technician provides support to distributed PC/networking environment including installation, testing, repair, and troubleshooting for stand-alone PCs, PCs linked to networks, printers, and other computer peripherals. Support responsibilities include software installation, and configurations. This technician performs technical, operational, and training support to users of personal computers either by telephone, or on-site for PC desktop hardware and software packages. Job duties require the technician to install and test personal computers, printers, and other peripherals, configure operating system, load shrinkwrap programs and other application software programs. In this position, the incumbent troubleshoots computer problems, performs hardware and software diagnostics, coordinates needed repairs, resolves computer system problems, including coordination between users and components of a local area network, and participates in the evaluation of system configuration and software.

The selectee for this position will be responsible for providing technical support and break/fix services for end user computers, mobile devices, and printers the specified NASA center. These services include hardware and software installation and removal, data transfers and restoration of an end user’s device to full operability when/if an incident occurs that renders hardware unstable, equipment is lost, damaged, destroyed, inoperable, or exhibits degraded performance. Restoration includes the tasks that are necessary to return managed hardware to an operational state, including correction of hardware faults via repair or replacement, replacement in case of loss or damage, configuration of software load, and restoration or transfer of all user data to replacement device. Technical support requests will typically be assigned via a software management system, but may also be initiated through phone calls, emails, or customer walk-up.

- Past experience requirements include the following:
• Installation and configuration of software
• Training support to users of personal computers either by telephone, or on-site for PC desktop hardware and software packages
• Installation of hardware and software, as well as testing support for personal computers, printers, and other peripherals
• Installation, configuration, and updating computer Operating Systems
• Loading shrink-wrap programs and other application software programs
• Troubleshooting computer equipment problems, as well as performance of hardware and software diagnostics, and coordinating needed repairs
• Conducting resolution of computer system problems, including coordination between users and components of a local area networks
• Participation in the evaluation of system configuration and software
• Conducting imaging of laptops
• Supporting and conducting backup of user and system files required for daily operations and disaster recovery
• Participation in network upgrades and system rollouts
• Documentation of Network/PC/Telecom equipment moves and maintenance of an accurate database of network/PC. equipment
• Minimum Qualifications: High School degree or equivalent; 2 years of related experience

Desired Skills:
• Past experience working with NASA, NOAA, or other US Government agency's computer systems is desired.
