Job Description:
• Be a Cybersecurity systems engineer in the Networking and Cybersecurity Operations Section 1732, as a member of the Cybersecurity/Identity  Management Operations Group (173F), and will report to the 173F Group Manager. Design and define complex architectures for cloud computing, business systems, firewalls, electronic data traffic and network access involved in security systems. Apply complex encryption technology, penetration testing and vulnerability assessment tools into daily operations to mitigation threats to JPL networked systems. Perform complex analysis of security technologies and information technology security research. Execute security controls to include security policies and procedures consistent with State, Federal and JPL contractual obligations. Apply broad knowledge in field to monitor and document attempted efforts to compromise security protocols. Collect and evaluate data in support of risk assessment including the analysis of operating systems and their baseline configuration. Collect information to maintain knowledge of the suitability of off-the-shelf solutions for maintaining security controls. Apply broad knowledge in field to monitor and report on complex network security systems (LAN/WAN, telecommunications, voice systems) and/or complex information systems.
• Collaborate with technical team members across the JPL enterprise and external customers to define and implement solutions for applications including streamlining processes, impact evaluation, updating or replacing existing solutions, determining deliverables, and communication plans.
• Be responsible for various aspects of deployments including application configurations, testing, user acceptance testing, application delivery, bug tracking and resolutions.
• Collaborate with the Cybersecurity technical and policy teams in evaluating technologies, strategies, policies, products and responses to Cybersecurity issues and events.
• Act as a security architecture consultant to the JPL Flight Operation Network.
• Act as a security architecture consultant to the JPL Institutional and Business Systems Networks.

• Candidate must have a minimum of a Secret 
• A United States Government administered polygraph examination will be given to the selected candidate; he/she must pass it to maintain employment in this position
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 years of related experience; or PhD with a minimum of 0 years related experience.
• Works independently on important assignments and projects with only limited supervision, typically receiving only general instructions.
• Exercises discretion and independent judgment to compare and evaluate various methods, approaches, and resources and decide which will best accomplish each aspect of such assignments and projects.
• Responsible for approving others’ work and ensuring compliance with requirements on significant projects and assignments.
• Responsible for completing significant project or assignment milestones.
• Experience and advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Cybersecurity Operations, Identity Management Systems, Network and Systems Architecture, UNIX, Linux-based and Windows systems administration.
• Extensive understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in securing networked computer systems.
• Knowledge and direct working experience with various Cybersecurity technologies: Splunk, Syslog, Network Generation Firewalls, Single Sign On solutions, Enterprise vulnerability scanning and management, as well as, System Information and Event Management solutions.
• Experience architecting scalable systems and applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively capturing and communicating technical information at all levels.

Desired Skills:
• Extensive knowledge of policies, procedures and guidelines for the development, implementation, operations and maintenance of Cybersecurity functions across the range of disciplines
• Experience with architecting and automating scalable systems and applications
• Experience working individually or within cross-functional teams supporting cross-functional programs
• Demonstrated success in understanding internal business processes in a high-tech environment such as project management and designing system enhancements with positive productivity improvements by enhancing functionality of user requirements.
• Previous implementation and maintenance experience with log aggregation tools, data analytics systems and network vulnerability management tools.
• Experience leading technical teams on large-scale projects through completion.
• Previous experience with business critical systems and multi-departmental collaboration.
• Expert experience in problem solving, analytics and communicating complex/complicated ideas
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Python and Java programming languages for manipulation and parsing of log data
