Labor Category: Engineering Technical Specialist I

Job Description:
We’re seeking an entry level technician to assist and be trained by one of our most senior flight technicians. Ideally, we’d like this entry level person to have basic familiarity with optical, mechanical and electronic components and the tools used to assemble them. However, we don’t want this person to already have what would be considered expertise in these areas as it’s important to us they acquire such expertise from our senior technician.
The entry level technician will learn how to use the laboratory inspection, assembly and testing equipment employed in the characterization, assembly, bonding, bake-out, temperature cycling, etc. of various elements of flight instruments, including detector array, proximity electronic circuits, optical elements, and fine-scale mechanical components. The person will also learn relevant assembly and processing techniques, monitoring and maintenance of the above laboratory equipment, and cleanroom and electrostatic discharge protection protocols. They will also take courses and receive certification in these procedures and protocols.
As training progresses, the entry level technician will work under the supervision of the senior technician, assisting in the performance of various hardware tasks and in lab and equipment maintenance procedures. Our goal is that after a period of perhaps one to two years, the entry level technician will have hands-on familiarity with the lab and its work and begin to offload some of the work currently handled by the often oversubscribed senior technician.

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Experience with the implementation and diagnosis various network setups and components including: routers, modems, and switches
• Ability to maintain and manage inventory correctly and neatly
• Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment and have a high level of attention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Time management and organizations skills

Desired Skills:
• Sound knowledge of mechanical, software, and electrical issues
• Knowledge of various machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
