Job Description:
Will be a Software Systems Engineer in the Ground Data System Engineering Group (394G) in the Mission Systems Engineering Section, serving as the Software Operations Systems Engineer on MGSS, reporting to the MGSS GDSE. Responsible for operational readiness of MGSS IT assets and software systems, including flight project systems currently being directly supported by MGSS. Prioritize and assign MGSS system and hardware administrative tasks to administrators supporting MGSS. Accountable for the performance of the administrative team, budget and cost account management, and schedule coordination. Maintain MGSS Flight Operations IT Security Plans scheduling and coordinating annual security review and annual contingency drill. Work with MGSS Security Engineer and MGSS System Engineering Office to develop new security procedures and validate and improve IT Security Plans. Develop a revised MGSS Backup and Archive plan and assign for implementation. Interface with a multidisciplinary team of mission system takeholders to document operational concepts and produce recommendations for evolution of MGSS system and services. Partner with institutional and external information technology providers to implement or evolve MGSS capabilities to meet MGSS customer requirements. Serve as a technical advisor to the MGSS System Engineering Office in the area of IT systems supporting flight projects and provide consulting to MGSS flight project customers. Participate in the systems engineering of MGSS systems and services.

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum of 9 years of related experience; Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with a minimum of 5 years related experience.
• Expertise in industry and/or academic practices and standards across a range of IT issues, including design and deployment of large systems, network architecture, virtualization technologies, and cloud computing.
• Extensive experience in the administration of Linux and Solaris operating systems.
• In depth understanding of IT security issues and extensive experience in implementing IT security solutions.
• Proficiency in UNIX shell scripting (Bourne shell and CSH).
• Proven decision-making and problem solving skills in a complex environment, including the ability to perform highly complex needs assessments.
• Proven ability to establish task priorities and manage change.
• Ability to resolve highly complex and/or technical mission control system issues.
• Superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Strong commitment to customer satisfaction with effective broad based teamwork skills.

Desired Skills:
• Broad knowledge of applicable Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations.
• Experience with development and delivery of software documentation, such as requirements documents, and operational procedures.
• Experience with OpenStack private cloud framework. Demonstrated Cloud and Hybrid Cloud skills, as well as skills with software containerization.
• Direct experience with VMWare virtualization systems including the vSphere hypervisor and vCenter management tool.
• Experience with the administration or use of AMMOS software in a mission environment.
• Experience with container deployment frameworks such as Docker.
• Operational experience on a flight project data management team or function.
• Experience with or knowledge of multi-mission data management and archive practices and tools.
