Job Description:
This position involves creating, executing, and validating a variety of computational modeling tools to study and predict surface properties and morphologies of icy worlds surfaces. Specifically, but not limited to, this includes modeling of ice penitente growth in free-molecular conditions relevant to landed missions on Europa and similar airless worlds. The modeling effort will combine computational tools for radiation heating, internal and external photon scattering, thermal conduction, and sublimation.

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree in Computational Engineering/Thermal/Physics or related technical discipline, with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
• The following course work: Thermodynamics, Linear Systems Analysis, Probability, Software Engineering and Design.
• Demonstrated Modeling understanding– Monte Carlo Simulation, Finite Element/Difference/Volume Methods, Numerical Methods
• Experience modelling of two- and three-phase systems.
• Demonstrated capability of task ownership and commitment to working extra hours to meet key milestones.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience with trouble shooting model systems, correlating, and various model integration.

Desired Skills:
• Working experience in a student engineering internship programs in a computational physics, thermal and/or space engineering domain.
• Software experience: Python, C++, MATLAB, Fortran.
• Familiarity with natural and forced convection, linear conduction, thermal radiation and numerical algorithms.
• Familiarity icy moons, penitente formation, and ice morphology, such as surface conditions at Jovian moon Europa
