Will be a member of the Payload Systems Engineering Group (313F) and contribute to the overall success of instrument development and science investigations. In this role, support the InSight Payload Systems Engineer in the following tasks:
Participating in the development of verification and validation plans and activities, and execution of testing. Resolving accommodation issues. Coordinate change requests and trade studies as needed. Support integration and test payload development efforts, particularly in the area of operations and with international partners Support integration and test as needed Maintain mass and power equipment lists Coordinate problem/failure reports and push toward closing them. Provide technical input to the payload manager or payload systems engineer for major reviews.
A Bachelors degree in engineering, physics, or related technical discipline with typically a minimum of 3 years of related experience; a Masters degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 1 years of related experience; or a PhD in similar disciplines. Understanding of the principles and techniques in flight systems engineering or instrument engineering. Experience in developing and negotiating complex engineering requirements and interface agreements. Ability to synthesize the discipline knowledge of a broad range of technical subject matter experts. Demonstrated ability to work independently on important assignments with only limited supervision. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Experience working with instrument teams and/or flight system subsystems. An ability to understand the pressures on, and motivations of, highly skilled and experienced instrument and subsystem design specialists. Soft skills required to work in a collaborative team environment with junior engineers, project managers, project scientists, system managers, and element managers. Proven ability to successfully interface and collaborate with external technical organizations. Experience in developing technical interface agreements and verification and validation plans. Strong background experience or degree in systems engineering.
