Job Description:
We are looking for a talented test engineer to help validate the mechanisms for the next rover that JPL will be sending to Mars. As an Integration and Test Engineer you will help in the assembly, integration, and testing of the robotic sampling system on the Mars 2020 rover. This subsystem will enable the collection of Martian surface samples and prepare them for potential return to Earth by future Mars missions. This job requires creativity as well as attention to detail in order to develop and execute tests that can prove that the mechanisms that we have built will be capable of achieving the mission objectives.
Some challenges you will tackle:
• Develop tests that can show that an electro-mechanical system meets its engineering requirements
• Design and develop hardware infrastructure required for testing
• Develop and author test procedures
• Perform testing on a highly complex robotic subsystem
• Troubleshoot problems in mechanisms, software, and control algorithms
• Collect and analyze performance data to ensure that the system functions properly and meets requirements

Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; Master’s degree in similar discipline with a minimum of 1 years of related experience; or PhD in similar discipline.
• Enthusiasm and a love for mechanical engineering and robotics
• Knowledge of and experience with the development and testing of electro-mechanical systems
• Ability to quickly troubleshoot complex problems across a broad range of technical disciplines
• Ability to juggle and prioritize a number of tasks in order to meet commitments with high quality products

Desired Skills :
• Practical experience with CAD modeling software, especially UG-NX
• Working knowledge of data collection hardware and software (i.e. Labview)
• Working knowledge of data analysis tools (i.e. Matlab, Python)
• Experience with spaceflight hardware development and test
• Experience with robotic systems that interact with unstructured environments
• Knowledge of kinematics and motion planning for serial manipulators
